Sony has officially announced its new earphones- Sony Xperia Ear Duo at the MWC which will be on sale at a price point of $280 and release date of May 2018. The new earphones were first showcased back in 2017 MWC as a prototype, but this time it has come out with an upgraded version. The company has now revealed the Duo Earphones’ price and availability information.
Sony has proclaimed that the Xperia Ear Duo will be on sale in this May with a price tag of $280. For the pre-order, the wireless earphones have been already made available via online retailer Amazon. The users are now able to control the earphones with just a tap. Alike the Apple’s AirPods, the new Xperia Ear Duo supports multiple gesture controls. The earphones can also detect the user’s head movement and support head nods and shakes to accept or decline incoming calls.
The Xperia Ear Duo doesn’t block the ear canal, so you can hear your music and the environment around you simultaneously. Even better, the volume automatically adjusts depending on your surroundings for an optimized audio experience. The main new addition to Sony’s earphones is the “Spatial Acoustic Conductor,” which Sony describes as a way to allow the sound generated behind the user’s ear by the unit’s driver “to be transmitted directly into the ear.”
The new Xperia Ear Duo will have Google Assistant and Siri integration for both Android and iOS users, with a single tap bringing up each voice assistant for traditional commands like starting music or reading texts. The assistants will also be able to read missed alerts from the calendar, email, and other apps.
Additionally, Sony said the earphones last for about four hours on one charge, and will come with a carrying case that adds an additional three charges. When they go on sale in May 2018, the Xperia Ear Duo will be available in black and gold colour options.
