The OnePlus Nord 2 5G was announced on Thursday as the company’s newest model in the Nord series. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G boasts triple rear cameras and a punch-hole display with a single selfie camera, in a contrast to last year’s OnePlus Nord, which had quad rear cameras and dual selfie cameras. The new smartphone, on the other hand, comes with a number of improvements over its predecessor.
A larger primary camera, a larger battery, and faster charging are among the improvements. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is also the first phone from the firm to feature a MediaTek processor. The OnePlus Buds Pro, in conjunction with the Nord 2 5G, is the Chinese company’s first truly wireless (TWS) earbuds.
OnePlus Nord 2: The self-proclaimed ‘flagship killer’
I understand why OnePlus called its new Nord 2 the “flagship killer.” This phone boasts amazing features, runs well, and when combined with a low starting price (just £399 in the UK), it’s meant to provide all you need from a phone without emptying your wallet.
It has a powerful processor, a great dual rear camera arrangement, 5G connectivity, and surprisingly fast charging, and it doesn’t look awful either.
Design, Display & Build Quality
The display on the Nord 2 measures 6.43 inches and has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, which is enough to make small text look sharp. It’s an AMOLED panel, which means it’s exceptionally bright: perfect for watching videos, taking photos, or playing whatever colorful game is presently trending on the Google Play Store.
It features a 90Hz refresh rate, which is slightly lower than the OnePlus 9 series’ 120Hz, but I doubt you’ll notice any difference in everyday use. When scrolling through the interface, it’s silky smooth, but you can lower the frequency to a more normal 60Hz, which may help preserve battery life.
The front is where you’ll be gazing the most, and we’re glad OnePlus ditched the ultrawide selfie camera in favor of a 32MP primary camera. The pill-shaped cutout has shrunk to a typical punch-hole, which is not ugly and we can cope with its size.
The Nord 2 is well-made, with Gorilla Glass 5 panels on both sides and a plastic frame. The internal chassis is made of metal, which can be seen and felt projecting from the rear and enclosing the cameras.
Android 11 software
The OnePlus Nord 2 5G runs on OxygenOS 11.3, which is built on Android 11 and is the first phone to do so. While the number doesn’t indicate anything substantial, there is one significant change: it now has a unified code with Oppo’s ColorOS 11.3.
This under-the-hood adjustment is part of the recent Oppo and OnePlus merger, and it will allow devices from both companies to receive the newest software updates quickly and efficiently.
I enjoy OnePlus software since it’s clean, simple to use, and doesn’t try to cram too many bundled services and junk onto the phone. As a result, the phone stays nimble and trouble-free for a longer period of time.
The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery, which is a 10% boost over the original Nord.
The Nord 2 features the same 65-watt quick charging as the OnePlus 9 series, which is incredible. It will charge the phone from empty to full in around 30 minutes, which is ideal for giving it a boost before leaving the house. The 4,500-mAh battery should still provide a day’s worth of use, but with the ability to recharge so quickly, battery life becomes less of a problem.
The retail package includes a 65W power adapter and a USB cable rated at 6.5A. Wireless charging isn’t available on the phone, but I don’t think that’s a big deal.
The OnePlus Nord 2 5G has two speakers: one on the bottom and one in the earpiece. The bottom-firing speaker appears to have a little more bass than the top-firing one, and it may possibly be a little louder. But it isn’t the point. The most important element is that the sound is well-balanced and adjusted for enjoyable listening in both portrait and landscape modes.
OnePlus has usually utilized Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors in its phones, but for the Nord 2, it has a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G SoC, which is fabricated in a 6Nm technology.
There are three variants: 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, and the highest model, 12GB+128GB. It has UFS 3.1 storage, which allows for fast read-write speeds, and LPDDR4X RAM.
This one has a 50MP+8MP+2MP resolution (triple camera).
The Sony IMX766 sensor with 50 megapixels is used. In this camera, night mode is available.
The ultrawide snapper, featuring an 8MP Sony IMX 355 sensor and an f/2.25 lens, is the second. There is no autofocus but Night Mode is available on this camera, too.
A 2MP GalaxyCore GC02M1 sensor with an f/2.5 aperture is used in the monochrome depth camera.
And we have a 32MP selfie sensor located on the front of the phone. And, based on the photographs, the IMX766 sensor performs admirably.
There is no support for 4K in the Nord 2, although it may become accessible with future upgrades.
The OnePlus Nord 2 is available in three colors: Gray Sierra, Blue Haze, and Green-Wood, with each having a different back panel finish.
The Gray Sierra has a matte back that is resistant to fingerprints and smudges.
The Blue Haze, a gorgeous shade with a porcelain-like glossy texture that pays homage to Nord’s original Blue Marble. Fingerprints and smudges remain, but due to the fresh minty milk tone, they are scarcely noticeable.
Cleaning the smudges is simple: just wipe them away with a towel or shirt.
Finally, a Green Wood variant with imitation leather on the back is available in a limited volume. However, this version will not be available in Europe.
